This years April fools day video. Throwing with some creative editing.
There are a lot of ways to throw on the wheel. So many of the explanations have us doing things we don’t really need to do. Like pulling up. That’s for silly people.

Making the best mug in the world, by the best potter in the world.

It was long ago that the high council on ceramic greatness had voted me unanimously the most perfect potter alive. I have a feeling in a few years it could be the greatest that ever lived but I need to stay humble. Today I will use all of my talent to throw for you the best mug in the world. If you have read this far and are confused 😐 it’s ok, you could be from Florida. It’s an April fools day...

I want you to know that this video has helped so much with my practice. I am taking a local class and unfortunately the teacher kind of skipped over explanations of how/why and just said, okay here's how its done, go ahead. We didn't go over coning, which has been a game changer after teaching myself from your videos! The class is over a short period of time so the mentality was "I have to make something to fire and glaze before the end." I practiced the other night with the intention to fail my throws and walked away with a way better feeling than any other times of practice. Thank you again!

In general it is dangerous to heat distilled water in the microwave. It has no particles to bubble around so it might not start visibly boiling even if it is hot enough to boil. Then as soon as it is disturbed, like by putting a tea bag in, it can suddenly boil explosively, and super hot water can get all over your hand. Since you were just doing science and not making tea, and monitoring the water with an infrared thermometer, it’s fine in this case, but just a PSA

Hi Tim. A follower of yours advised me that it doesn’t matter how you build the plate if it warps in the glaze fire. It’s about how you fire it and the build doesn’t matter. Can you point me in the direction of your video where you describe how to prevent plate warping via glazing and firing process only.

People teach what they were taught. I was never really taught, instead I tried everything and as a teacher I watched thousands of hours of people throwing and distilled the best of what worked to this. When a classroom is my way or the highway and it’s based on nothing but someone else did you get all sorts of dogma.

I was taught I have the clay make an s shape as I pulled but that’s not good for the clay. The proof is always the result I I saw someone eating what I want out of a pull and did it better than me I would switch. So far this is the most effective way I’ve seen to pull a wall.

@@timseepotsthat is a good tip. Yes I am. I can cone up / down and always get the top half of the clay centered. I don’t understand how to get the bottom half. I bring the bottom half clay up (but it is still un centered after you being it up so how does it ever get centered?). It just uncenters the top half I already did. I cone up/down again, centering the top half only again. I don’t get the bottom half, it is frustrating. Sometimes i get it but have no idea how I got it there and is very inconsistent. Most times i just give up and throw the piece anyways. My pulling is good enough to throw partially centered pieces. But this is a problem as i am throwing bigger pieces now and is now limiting those.
